As of August 2026, Ford and Lincoln module programming runs as a live remote session on our side rather than a file service — $150 for a session on FJDS/FDRS driving your own J2534 device — and there is no Ford IMMO-OFF file product here at all. That is the whole routing answer, and it belongs in the first sentence because a large share of the Ford work that reaches us arrives on the upload page expecting the other thing.

Ford is the clearest case of a platform where the honest answer is “session, not file.” Our coverage matrix lists every ECU variant we patch as a file along with its exact status, and Ford appears there only inside the Delphi DCM family, marked manual— meaning commercial tooling only, no automated patch of ours. The $150 is our own posted session price, so it is exact rather than a range. It sits in the middle of our three tiers: GM runs $100 because ACDelco TDS is the least expensive OE subscription we carry, and Toyota, Volvo, VW/Audi and Mopar run $250 because theirs are not. Ford lands between them for licensing reasons, not because the work is harder.

As-Built is the part people underestimate

Ford's configuration model is unusual in a way that quietly decides how your job goes. A great deal of what makes a Ford module behave like yourFord module is not in the calibration at all — it lives in As-Built data, a per-VIN block of configuration values held against the vehicle and published through Ford's own service information portal. A module installed without it will often flash cleanly, communicate happily, and still behave wrong: options missing, trailer configuration wrong, tire size wrong, a feature the customer paid for simply gone.

That is why PMI exists as a named procedure rather than a generic “program module” button. PMI is Ford's installation flow for a replacement module: it pulls configuration off the outgoing module where that is still possible, applies the current calibration, and writes the As-Built values. Skipping it and pushing a bare calibration is the most common way a Ford module swap ends up half-finished while everyone involved believes it is done.

What you need on your end

The security question nobody asks until it bites

Immobilizer and anti-theft operations on late-model vehicles are not purely a tooling problem in the United States. The National Automotive Service Task Force administers the Vehicle Security Professional registry, the mechanism through which manufacturers release security-gated functions to independent technicians. Different operations sit on different sides of that gate, and which side yours falls on is a vehicle-and-year question rather than a brand question. When a job needs credentials we do not hold for that operation, we say so before you pay rather than after.

The pass-thru layer itself is standardised, which is the only reason a generic device works at all. The interface is defined by SAE J2534, and the trouble codes you will be reading alongside the programming come from SAE J2012. When a Ford job is not a session at all

Three shapes get misrouted often enough to name individually.

The module does not communicate.A session needs something on the other end of the bus to talk to. If the module is dark — no response on any protocol, nothing at the pins that should be live — that is a bench job on opened hardware, not a remote connection. The car will not start after a used module went in. On Ford that is usually configuration or security alignment, and it has a small number of causes. The six that account for nearly all of them are in our swapped-ECU guide — work that list before booking anything, because two of the six cost nothing to fix and neither needs us.

You want the file, not the session. Some shops want a patched binary they can write themselves with their own tooling. For Ford we do not have that product, and inventing one would mean claiming coverage we have not built. The honest route is our specialist network: post the job, operators with different tooling bid on it, posting is free and you pay only if you accept a bid. That is a real answer and a better one than a vague promise from us.

How a session runs, minute by minute

  1. Before the slot. Device plugged in, IgniteRemote installed, the setup code from your booking email entered, maintainer on the battery, doors shut, key in the position we specify.
  2. First five minutes. We confirm your device is visible on our side, read the module identifiers, and confirm the procedure exists for your exact vehicle before touching anything writable.
  3. The write. Depending on module and calibration size this runs from a few minutes to most of an hour. Do not open doors, do not turn the key, do not unplug.
  4. Configuration. As-Built or PMI values applied, parameters reset, adaptations cleared where the procedure calls for it.
  5. Verification. Codes cleared, module re-read, engine started while you watch. If something is off, we are still connected and can act on it.

Booking a slot thirty minutes out and then discovering the car is sitting on a flat battery in a customer's driveway is the most common avoidable loss on both sides of the connection. Ten minutes of preparation converts most failed sessions into successful ones.

Where this sits against the rest of what we do

We are an access-and-repair operation, not a calibration seller. There is no Ford tune on this site and no commission for us in one. That is not boilerplate aimed at Ford in particular — it is the line we hold on every platform, and Section 203(a)(3) of the federal Clean Air Act is why. A shop offering to program away an emissions monitor in the middle of a “module replacement” is selling a different product with different liability attached to it.

Key learn and parameter reset: what a session can and cannot do

A large share of our Ford bookings come from mobile locksmiths rather than repair shops, and the question is nearly always the same: can this be done remotely, and does it need anything the vehicle owner has to produce?

The honest split looks like this. Programming a module with current calibration software and applying configuration is squarely inside what a session does. Parameter resets and adaptation clears that the manufacturer's software exposes are likewise routine. Where it gets vehicle-specific is anything that changes what the car will accept as an authorised key, because that is the operation manufacturers protect most heavily and the protection varies by model year rather than by badge.

Our approach is to check that question before taking money rather than after. If a specific operation on a specific year is not something we can complete, the useful outcome for you is knowing at the enquiry stage, while the car is still on your schedule and not on a lift. The mobile workflow that actually holds up

For anyone running this from a van rather than a bay, the sequence below is what separates a profitable remote session from a wasted afternoon. It is built around the constraint that matters: you are billing a customer who is standing there watching.

  1. Qualify on the phone, before you drive.Year, model, engine, and what the symptom is. If a used module is already fitted, say so — that changes the whole plan.
  2. Book the slot while you are en route. Earliest bookable time is thirty minutes out and the window runs 9 AM to 9 PM Central, seven days, which is built for exactly this.
  3. Maintainer on the battery as the first tool out of the van. Not the last. Ford writes run long enough that a marginal battery becomes a problem partway through rather than at the start.

  5. Set the customer's expectation on duration. Ford PCM programming plus As-Built restoration is not a five-minute job. Telling somebody it will take an hour and finishing in forty minutes is a better business than the reverse.

Shops running this at volume tend to buy their own subscription eventually, and that is the correct outcome — if Ford is a weekly job for you, a licence pays for itself.
